Searching for a Bose sale in Maryland or Virginia?

Bose products are about great sound, small size, and ease of use. At The Big Screen Store, we’ve been an authorized Bose dealer for over a decade. We have tried to carry other audio systems throughout the years, but for most customers, a Bose system is the best option. Especially now that TVs are so thin, most customers do not want large speakers. The Bose Lifestyle systems, cinemates, and soundbars are perfect solutions for anyone looking for an elegant, easy to use home theater system that really makes you feel “like you’re there.” Now is the best time to buy because Bose products are unilaterally priced (meaning they can’t be discounted), so this is your one chance per year to buy a Bose product at 10% off!

At The Big Screen Store, we’re sweetening the deal by also offering free professional setup of any Bose home theater system purchased from us!

Bose makes several full surround sound systems. These will give you the most life-like sound with three speakers in the front of the room, two in the rear of the room, and an Acoustimass module (Bose’s version of a subwoofer) that produces those low, booming tones that you can feel as well as hear.

The Bose Lifestyle V35, regularaly $3299 and on sale for $2969, is Bose’s best system. Its patented Jewel Cube speaker technology gives incredible sound out of a speaker that is so small that most customers don’t even notice them once they are mounted on the wall. It comes with a remote that operates all of the components connected to it, so you don’t have to juggle multiple remotes. The system is so incredible, it actually calibrates itself to the acoustics of your room and centers the sound on where you sit in your room, automatically, with its AdaptIQ technology. It even comes with an ipod dock and will display everything from the screen of your ipod on your TV screen.

If you have always wanted music throughout your house, but the thought of running wires is mind-boggling or too costly, you can wirelessly expand your Bose Lifestyle V35 system to up to 14 additional rooms!

If you don’t mind a slightly larger speaker, the Bose Lifestyle V25 system, regularly $2499 and on sale for $2249, may be a great option for you. It does everything that the V35 does, but with a slightly larger speaker.

If you are just looking for a home theater for one room and don’t care about the music capability with the ipod dock and wireless expansion to additional rooms, the Bose Lifestyle T20, regularly $1999 and on sale for $1799, might be the system for you.

Some people don’t want rear speakers, and Bose has a system for everyone. With all of the functionality of the Bose Lifestyle V35, but with just two speakers in front and the Acoustimass module, the Bose Lifestyle 235, regularly $2299 and on sale for $2069, is a perfect option.

New from Bose is the Lifestyle 135, which sells for $2499. As a brand new product, this is not on sale at 10% off. This is Bose’s first system that uses a soundbar instead of multiple speakers. The soundbar can be placed on a credenza or mounted on a wall. It projects beams of sound around the room, giving you 5.1 quality surround sound from just a single speaker! I have this system and constantly find myself checking over my shoulder to check the front door, only to realize that it is something on TV coming from my Bose soundbar.

Also new from Bose is the Bose Cinemate 1 SR soundbar, which sells for $1499. This system gives you the great sound of the Lifestyle 135 but eliminates some of the functionality of the Lifestyle systems. If you’re technologically savvy, aren’t looking to use the system for music, and don’t mind juggling a couple of remotes or purchasing a separate universal remote, this may be the system for you.

We also have 2-speaker Bose Cinemate systems starting as low as $599, so there is truly a system for every application and budget. Stop into a Big Screen Store near you for a demonstration. Bose products always come with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee or you can return the product for full refund! They make a great gift for the holidays and, with most of the systems at 10% off, now is the time to buy. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or to setup an appointment.

The 3D TV experience is coming at the electronics industry like a freight train with no breaks (similar to color TV replacing Black and White TV). 3D content is becoming more prominent, and is here for the duration.

There is a lot of un-warranted confusion in the marketplace when trying to purchase the correct 3D TV. There are two main types of 3D (Active and Passive). Passive 3D works by putting a film over each eye, using polarized lenses to make the picture look deeper, whereas active glasses are powered by batteries or rechargeable batteries with each lens flickering upwards of 240 times a second to produce the 3D image.

Of the two types of 3D, “Active” tends to give the illusion of objects dancing in the middle of the room, whereas “Passive” gives the viewer more the illusion of looking into the TV, as opposed to objects coming out of the screen and entering the room. Active provides a far superior 3D TV experience in the home.

That being said, there are three basic types of Active 3D. "Left/Right or Horizontal" being the first type, “Top to Bottom or Vertical” is the second, and the superior “Checkerboard” format is the third. The “Left/Right” and “Top/Bottom” 3D formats only allow 3Dto be viewed when sitting directly in front of the screen while sitting up. The last, and most advanced type of 3D is checkerboard. When looking at a 3D television set that displays 3D in “Checkerboard” it looks the same from all reasonable angles, and even gives viewers the option to lay down when viewing 3D content. With the majority of TV being watched at night, the ability to lay down is key in the real world.

On top of being the only “Checkerboard” manufacturer, the Panasonic GT, and VT series TVs are THX certified (2D Movies will look the same on a Panasonic plasma that they do in the movie theater).

In closing, Panasonic is the superior 3D TV experience because they offer the consumer the ability to view the set from widest angles and various positions around the room.

Would you consider yourself a “Movie Buff?”

Are you an avid sports enthusiast?

Do you have small children in your home?

Do you frequently entertain guests, friends and family at your home?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions then you should consider owning a 92 inch television!

Bigger IS Better!

As a home theater consultant with the Big Screen Store, we spend hours in front of all the top-rated, consumer televisions and even when compared to the rest of our stellar showroom, the Mitsubishi WD-92840 literally stands head and shoulders above the rest!

Unlike many of the newer LED televisions that suffer from a washed-out look when you get into the larger sizes 60 – 70 inches, the Mitsubishi 92 inch television has a plasma-esque color quality to it. This is thanks in part to its 6 color engine which is exclusive to Mitsubishi’s DLP TVs.

I personally own the 65” DLP and I could have picked a flat screen just as easily, but I chose DLP based on its size, picture, features and value! The new 92 inch television, which debuted in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, was all the rave and greeted with overwhelming accolades, and for good reason!

With a crystal clear (nearly) 8 foot diagonal picture and unmatched color quality, this is truly “Home Theater” minus the ten-dollar bucket of popcorn.

All kidding aside, it has to be seen in person to appreciate. The innovative clear screen design is virtually “kid proof” from the perspective of the flying Wii remote. This is a TV that you can relax, sit back and enjoy with your kids. We replace A LOT of flat panels due to accidental damage and it’s because of that reason that I chose my DLP 2 years ago and why you should consider the DLP 92 inch television.

So what is “DLP”, or Digital Light Processing?

Contrary to popular belief DLP is not from the past, it’s the future! If you have ever been to an I-MAX movie, or any movie theater for that matter in the last 2 years, you have witnessed DLP technology, and its all Mitsubishi!

Keep in mind, Mitsubishi was the first television manufacturer to offer the first generation “Big Screen” at a whopping 37 inches! As you can imagine the technology has only gotten bigger AND better!

Review Of The Amazing 92 Inch Television

If you have been considering a new TV, if you are looking at going “BIG” on a budget (under $5000), we have the perfect TV for you. Not only is it feature packed with 3-D capability, built-in 16 speaker theater surround sound and wi-fi compatibility with over 100 internet apps, videos and widgets, it is a phenomenal looking TV. It’s size at nearly 8 feet diagonally and its brilliant clear-screen, make it the ultimate television experience for your home.

If you answered “yes” to any of our above questions, then it has become clear:

You should need, want and consider, the Mitsubishi DLP 92 inch television!

Active shutter 3D is a technology that provides the best 3D experience using perfectly timed shutters inserted into glasses that are worn while watching 3D content.

Simply put, active shutter 3D allows you to see the movie, sporting event, or game exactly how you would see it in person with your own two eyes. When we look around with both of our eyes open, we can discern depth.

We are able to estimate approximately how far or close an object is just by looking at it. Unfortunately, we are unable to use this ability when watching a 2D television but with active shutter 3D technology, we can.

How Active Shutter 3D Is Better Than REAL-D

In order to fully understand why active shutter 3D is better than the REAL-D they use in the theaters, you must first understand how 3D works.

In order for your mind to understand depth, it must compare the different images detected by your right and left eye. Your right eye always sees a slightly different image than your left eye. Your brain then converts both of these images into one complete 3D image.

3D cameras act just like your eyes, except they actually film what they are seeing. The most common configuration of modern 3D cameras is with the lenses positioned side-by-side. This configuration is the most common and efficient because it imitates the construction of our own optical architecture, with our eyes side-by-side.

Advantages To Active Shutter 3D Glasses

With ‘conventional’ 3D or REAL-D technology, you are forced to look through inexpensive polarized lenses in order to combine the separate pictures into one image.

These lenses often cause headaches and eye-strain because, occasionally, your left eye sees what your right should and vice-versa.

To prevent this, active shutter 3D technology, or what I like to call TRUE 3D actually consists of two separate LCD lenses. These lenses open and close in order to allow light to pass through at a rate of more than 60 times a second. They are able to do this with perfect timing, so that your right eye only sees what the right camera has filmed and your left eye only sees what the left camera has filmed.

This advanced technology allows you to feel like you are behind the camera lens, peering at the content with your own two eyes!

Cool right?

Stop on in and check it out, it’s a must see!

Keep in mind all the best 2D TV’s can support active shutter 3D technology. 3D is nothing more than a feature you can turn on and off at will. Don’t feel obligated to always wear the glasses, but be the first on your street with some of these and you can count on hosting the Super-bowl party at your place.

Wireless 5.1 surround sound systems have always been a coveted household accessory. The main problem with them is powering them and making sure they output the correct sounds to the correct speakers.

Nobody would want to replace batteries in independent speakers every day.

Although wireless 5.1 surround sound systems are generally considered a luxury, there are certain situations where they are important to have. For example, a presentation room in an office would require a convenient and efficient way of delivering high quality sound to maximize the effectiveness of the presentation being given.

Some don’t want to deal with the hassle of running wires to the back of their room and also don’t want speakers hanging on their walls. There are also people who are physically unable to incorporate wired surround sound in their homes because of the room’s setup or architecture.

That’s where Bose can help!

Bose Has Cleverly Done It Again!

Bose has recently introduced the Lifestyle 135 and the Cinemate 1SR. These wireless 5.1 surround sound systems use advanced audio processing to send sound where the speakers aren’t.

The main portion of the system is a small compact sound-bar enclosure that has 5 speakers inside. They are the best speaker drivers that Bose produces, and each speaker produces a sound different from the others.

Why Do You Need 5 Speakers You Ask?

Much like a full wireless 5.1 surround sound system there is a center channel in which dialogue comes through. This allows vocals to be separated from the rest of the sounds ensuring you can hear what the actors/artists are saying overtop of all the action.

Two of the five speakers are designed for your main action sounds and produce a left and right separation of sound that is unmatched by any other speaker manufacturer.

The final two speakers produce all sounds that would typically come from the rear speakers in a surround sound system. Using the walls and floors around you to bounce the sound around, there is no need for you to have rear speakers what-so-ever.

Through a simple calibration process, these wireless 5.1 surround sound systems can be tuned to any room or environment, regardless of its shape or size!

Included in these systems is a wireless subwoofer responsible for all the lower bass frequencies. Place it anywhere in the room, plug it in and you are ready for the movie!

What Else Can This Wireless 5.1 Surround Sound System Do?

The Lifestyle 135 is slightly more versatile over its Cinemate 1SR counterpart as it offers iPod connectivity and control, up to 14 zones of audio expansion, an easy to use one touch remote that doesn’t require any ‘pointing’, as well as a very nice on-screen interface.

Stop by any BIG SCREEN STORE for a quick listen.

We Also Offer Wireless 5.1 Surround Sound Systems With Rear Speakers!

Want rear speakers to get the full theater affect, but still don’t have the ability to run speaker wires? No problem!

Bose offers a variety of Lifestyle 5.1 systems that have physical rear speakers.

With the available wireless accessory from Bose, you can set your surround sound system up so that the rear speaker audio signals are sent to them from the front of the room without having to use any speaker cables.

It should be noted that cheap imitations of the wireless 5.1 surround sound systems use IR (Infrared) based transmitters that are susceptible to major interference. This takes away from the whole “theater experience” as the sound cuts in and out.

Bose uses a narrow-band RF (Radio Frequency) transmitter that is placed in the front of your room and won’t be affected by signal interference. Place the small frequency receiver in the back of your room and you’re all ready to go. You can complete this affect with floor stands or wall mounts for your speakers, depending on your preference.

If you opt against the wireless option and just don’t want deal with the hassle of running the speaker wire, let us do it for you! We offer extremely reasonable installation rates and will be more than happy to do the work for you.

Wireless 5.1 Surround Sound or Wired 5.1 Surround Sound… Its Your Choice!

I hope this sheds some light on how you can achieve unbelievable audio quality without having to run wires by yourself.

Come talk to the experts and we’ll make sure you get the best bang for the buck from your new sound system. After all, they don’t record TV series, movies, and sports with 5 channel sound tracks for nothing!

Don’t mismatch a great picture with poor audio performance! Click to contact us today!

I have been in the television business for seventeen years and this will be my first blog so here goes nothing…. If I would suggest anything to every consumer in the market for a TV, it would be to give plasma TV technology a look before ruling it out because your friend that claims to know everything about tv’s told you not to buy one.

With the days of $10,000 42″ plasma tv’s with multiple issues behind us, it is time to consider plasma tv’s as a viable option in any home theater room. The myths about refilling plasma gas, harmful emissions, and whatever else you may have heard were never true.

The two main issues that have been overcome were image retention, other wise known as burn in and much higher energy consumption. I can recall when LCD and DLP technologies were first brought into the picture. The LCD panels would burn out pixels leaving random blue, green, and red dots in the screen. The dlp lamps were going bad quicker than my kids had gone through shoes. Those issues were eventually corrected and so have the issues with plasma technology.

One issue that has been resolved is the issue of image retention. You no longer have to worry about watching too much of the stock market channel. Plasma TV technology has pixel shift technology to prevent any burn in on the screen. You would have to pause a dvd player from 2001 with no screen saver, go to the ocean for a week with the movie left on pause to possibly burn any image into the screen. If you were careless enough to do that, the tv would simply wipe it away using a scrolling white bar found in the menu of the tv. This is not even necessary, but Panasonic which only sells plasma tv’s in 46″ + sizes has gone the extra mile to debunk the myths.

All Panasonic plasma tv’s are also energy star compliant so the myths about your electric bill are over as well. A plasma tv does use more energy than the same size led, but the cost difference will not change your lifestyle. If you ran a 55″ led for 5 hrs a day, the cost of energy would be $21 for the year. Using the same 5 hrs a day with a 60″ plasma, your energy cost for the year is only $28!

The bottom line is the difference between plasma technology is no longer reliability, or how much energy it consumes, it is simply the way that the picture is generated on the screen.

Please feel free to stop by the Towson location and ask for Josh for an in depth comparable demonstration of the TRUE differences between led and plasma technologies. We have side by side setups in the store to show you the advantages of plasma as well as the advantages of led. Come by the store and if nothing else, you will atleast give yourself a chance to make a more educated decision on a TV that will be in your house for an average of ten years.

In addition, the best in plasma vs the best in led in any screen size will cost you less in plasma.

Oh yeah and by the way, when is the last time a salesman tried to save you money?

If you’re looking for a Panasonic plasma TV in Maryland or Virginia, The Big Screen Store should be your first (and last) stop.

Most savvy customers out there are already well aware that the plasma technology has made a strong comeback in the consumer electronics world. According to the NPD Group, which tracks sell-through data at retail, tracking of January through April data shows 25% year over year growth in unit sales of plasmas displays versus only 2% for LCD (including LED/LCD) displays.

Here are the facts:

The Panasonic VT30 Series

With the fastest refresh rates of any flat panel technology, plasma displays are the best for sports, games, or any video with high-speed motion. Where even the best LCDs and LEDs will show motion blur, plasmas remain crystal clear. I was in my Towson, MD store watching the finals of the Women’s World Cup finals on a Samsung UN55D8000 LED. The picture was very bright, but every time a shot was taken or a pass was made, the ball looked more like a comet than a soccer ball. I drove home around half-time and caught the rest of the game on my new TC-P65VT30. No matter how fast the ball moved, it stayed crystal clear and distinct.

Plasma is the best technology for displaying 3D. Size and speed are the two things that are most important for an immersive 3D experience. Once you get above 55 inches in screen size, plasma TVs are much more affordable than LED sets of the same size. And, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, plasma is a much faster technology than LCD. Considering each eye only gets half as many frames as when you are viewing in 2D, the motion blur on LCD displays is that much more apparent when viewing in 3D.

Plasma displays produce the deepest black levels and most accurate colors. I am naturally drawn to the brightness of LCD TVs just like many others. However, when watching an LCD TV for a long period of time, I start to notice things like the grass isn’t the color of real grass or flesh tones are inaccurate. On a Panasonic plasma, you can always be sure that the color reproduction is as true-to-life as you can get.

The stories of high energy costs, short life spans, and screen burn are stories of the past. My new 65″ Panasonic, which consumes much more energy than the smaller sizes, came with an Energy Star sticker right on the front of it stating that it uses $32 of electricity per year if viewed 5 hours per day. Panasonic plasmas are rated for approximately 100,000 hours of viewing time before they reach their half life (when the picture will be half as bright as when the set was brand new). That’s roughly 30 years at 8 hours per day of viewing! All of the new Panasonic plasma TVs also have anti image retention technology, making the risk of screen burn almost non-existent.

I just got my new Panasonic plasma TV model TC-P65VT30 delivered to my new home in Baltimore, MD last week. My installers from The Big Screen Store came out and hung it over my fireplace and it looks beautiful. With its “glass to the edge” design, it looks almost as stunning when it is turned off as it does when it is turned on!

I can’t say enough about what a great job my installers from The Big Screen Store did. My house was built in 1979 and was not wired for a TV or electric over the fireplace. They fished the cable line from downstairs and ran electric off of an outlet on a neighboring wall without cutting a single hole in the drywall other than one right behind the TV! Alright, enough about the installers and more about the TV…

I quickly and easily connected my set to my home’s wireless network and started taking advantage of all of the applications that Panasonic’s Viera Connect service has to offer. I was instantly streaming Netflix movies, Hulu TV programs, and watching baby eagles in their nest on Ustream (you’ll see what I mean if you buy one). I also had some fun on Facebook and YouTube. I started to wonder if I even needed my Comcast service!

I haven’t purchased a 3D bluray player yet, so I went to the free On Demand 3D movies on my Comcast box and popped on the pair of 3D glasses that came in the box with my Panasonic TV. I started watching Despicable Me and it was amazing. I was surprised because my room is very bright and I thought the picture would be more washed out and I would have a lot of glare. Panasonic’s claims about the Infinite Black Pro 2 panel and Louver filter are absolutely true. I got deep blacks, vibrant colors, and almost no glare, even with full sunlight streaming through my windows.

I had fun converting my old photos to 3D images with Panasonic plasma’s 2D to 3D image converter. I took the SD card right out of my digital camera, popped it in the side of the set, put on the 3D glasses, and there were my photos popping out of the screen!

I can’t say enough about my VT30 series Panasonic plasma TV, which comes in both 65″ and 55″ screen sizes. In addition to everything I’ve mentioned before, it is THX certified, meaning you get the same experience when watching a movie in your home as you did when you saw it in the movie theater.

The Panasonic GT30 Series

If you’re looking for high performance and a slightly better value, check out Panasonics line of GT30 series plasmas. It doesn’t come with a pair of glasses in the box like the VT30 series, but its Infinite Black 2 panel produces nearly the same image quality as the VT30 series and almost all other features are the same.

Aesthetically you give up the “glass to the edge” look but the GT30 series is great looking compared to most others on the market and you can buy a nice sound system or credenza from The Big Screen Store to go with your new TV with the money you’ll save by stepping down to this model. The GT30 series is available in 65″, 60″, 55″, and 50″ screen sizes, and all are available at the guaranteed lowest prices at The Big Screen Store.

The Panasonic ST30 Series

If you want great performance and 3D on a budget, check out the ST30 series. You will give up the THX certification and the TV is a little bit thicker than the GT and VT series, but the picture is still excellent and certainly better than anything else on the market in its price range.

The Panasonic S Series

Finally, if you want the most bang for your buck and don’t care about 3D, checkout the S series. At The Big Screen Store, you will find the Panasonic TC-P60S30 plasma TV on display for about the same price you would have paid for a 42″ just two years ago and the same price as most 40 to 46″ LED TVs today.

Panasonic’s newest TV is quickly becoming one of our top-selling models. The GT25 series comes in both 42″ and 50″ screen sizes. Panasonic’s VT25 series was picked as the best set in the industry by nearly everyone this past year. The GT25 series is nearly identical to the VT25 series with a MUCH more attractive price tag. It has Panasonic’s “infinite black” plasma panel technology and Panasonic is still the only manufacturer that sends full 1080p resolution to each eye when viewing in 3D (all other manufacturers only send half the resolution to each eye resulting in a lesser quality picture).

While the VT25 series comes with a 3D bluray player, 3 pairs of 3D glasses, and Avatar on 3D bluray disc, the GT25 is not “bundled” with any accessories. The thought here is to get the best 2D TV (see my post from 10/23/10 to read more about 3D TVs also being the best 2D TVs) that also happens to be able to do 3D. You can buy this set in a 50″ for just over $1000 or in a 42″ for under $900. At those prices, they are less than many of the strictly 2D sets on the market. This way, as 3D content becomes more widely available and the cost of the 3D accessories plummet, you don’t have to go buy a new TV when you decide you want to view 3D a few years down the road.
